Time for Field Day! We had a great time outside with lots of different games. Chloe and Joseph were the fastest runners in our class, but we sure had some fast and close races! Here is Mrs. Koski with Coach, who happened to be outside enjoying the festivities, too. :) Below is a slideshow of our exciting day. We are having a blast with our study of the ocean. We have learned about so many different animals that live there. In A House for Hermit Crab, we discovered that the little crab that outgrew his shell was somewhat like a first grader. We made our new shells because we're ready for Second Grade! We also made a little reminder of the ocean to take home -- an ocean in a bottle! Parents, the bottle caps have been hot-glued, so they should be safe to have around all summer. Ahhh, I can almost feel that summer ocean breeze.......... We were excited to receive a visit from the WatchKnowLearn bus. The website is a great resource for teachers (and families). Over 33,000 free videos are uploaded to the site. Take a look at http://watchknowlearn.org/ We toured the RV/Bus that has traveled the country (22 states so far) to promote the site. Dr. Joe Thomas and his family of 5 daughters are making a pilgrimage around the country. The students loved seeing what it looked like and even wrote about what they'd do if they could live on the bus.
Yesterday we had a grand celebration of poetry and had so many guests! The students were wonderful as they circulated around the room, reading to their own parents and others. We love poetry! A celebration of POETRY! on PhotoPeach
Have you ever wondered what a kinkajou eats (or what it is, for that matter)? Do you know what preys on an ocelot? And...baby sloths are called what? All of these questions can be answered by visiting our Rainforest display in the hallway. Each student chose a rainforest animal and researched to determine what it eats, where it lives, what are its predators, etc. They even did beautiful metallic watercolor paintings of their animals. They did a fantastic job!
