I absolutely LOVE these ocean paintings that the students created. The only rule: make sure you have sea animals in your ocean. Aren't they lovely?

Field Day is always a big highlight of the year at Highlands. This year did not disappoint. It was a great day! Just take a look at all the fun we had today!
Congratulations to all the students that met the Texas Readers requirements. We had a big dance party with our bubbles and popsicles! And then, we started to take selfies....
We are learning a lot about the ocean and the animals that live there. We are reading fiction and non-fiction books. Look at these "magic fish" that can grant any wish! We loved reading Rainbow Fish, one my all-time favorites. They did a terrific job of acting out the story with puppets, and then painted their own fish and identified a feeling they could relate to. Here are a few timelines of familiar things. We were impressed to see all of the changes in technology.
The Multicultural Festival Parade is a highlight at Highlands. We marched in one parade, and then settled down to be the audience for the grades 3-5 parade. The traditional country outfits were spectacular! Our wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Williams, decorated our hallways with beautiful things!
We had so many fun activities this Festival Week! Wednesday was our food tasting. The students sampled eggrolls, chow mein noodles, mandarin oranges, rice, and fortune cookies. Using chopsticks was a little challenging! |
AuthorI am a retired First Grade teacher in Texas. I have two children, two daughters-in-law, a grandson and granddaughter. Our beloved pup, Rocco, went to heaven this year. He was 15 years old. I've been married 37 years. I would love to hear from any former students! Archives
