Book Clubs, Scottie's Neighborhood, Thanksgiving, Math & Science Night and Junior Achievement11/20/2018 Our week was full of activities and fun as we head into the Thanksgiving holidays. We have our "book club" groups on a regular basis. Students read books on their level and discuss. In Social Studies, we have been learning about goods and services. Each student created a store for "Scottie's Neighborhood" and described what they do. We enjoyed some great Thanksgiving stories this week. After reading A Turkey For Thanksgiving, the students put the events in order. We made some creative turkeys, too! One of our wonderful kindergarten teachers let us examine some of her Native American artifacts. It gave us a real world connection to their way of life. We enjoyed our own Thanksgiving gathering of Pilgrims and Native Americans. First, they worked in groups to make the butter. Then, it was time for a feast! Thank you to those that came out for Math & Science Night. It was a lot of fun! We used those ideas to play card games and make our own Turkey Hideouts! We enjoyed a day of learning with some students from Dulles High School, and the Junior Achievement program.

Our colorful tree reports are decorating the hallway. This activity always gives me a laugh. The students "dress me" in a costume for Halloween. We enjoyed a lovely report by a student who wanted to share some information about Diwali: Di·wa·li /dēˈwälē/ noun
The students enjoyed coloring an art pattern called Rangoli. In Science, we have been studying Force & Motion. We used many opportunities this week to explore how things move. We tested our theories about friction with cars in the hallway. We used energy from our bodies to walk, hop, skip, and crab walk and measured speed. These young engineers designed ramps for their cars, then made adjustments to get the most acceleration. We finished our books about our families and shared them with a friend. At recess one day, we spoke about personal responsibility and the students picked up sticks on the playground! We went outside for a free recess as our last reward for the Fun Run donations. Thanks again for your contributions! In preparation for Veterans Day, we made some posters. Here are more photos of our "Hall of Honor" with tributes to our Veterans. Our Veterans Day program was so special, respectful and emotional. Thank you to all Veterans!!! God Bless the USA! It was a spooky Halloween week with the Fun Run! We did some graphing activities. It was an exciting week with our fundraiser Boosterthon - the FUN RUN. We enjoyed a dance party for those that contributed. One of our rewards was Stuffed Animal Day. Time to RUN! Popsicles were a tasty treat after all that running! We enjoyed eating lunch in the classroom. Shoes-Off Day was another reward! We did some leaf rubbings after reading a lot of tree books this week!
