during Math.
We wrapped up our color unit this week. We enjoyed fun books focusing on orange, purple, brown and black. We did some group activities this week during Math. I adore this book that we read on Brown Day. We compared our skin colors, and then did self portraits. Beautiful! It also happened to be Grandparents Lunch that day. It was fun to see so many grandmas and grandpas! We used our senses for the Mystery Mixture experiment. They were happy to discover it was chocolate pudding mix! On Black Day, we read Rosie's Walk, then acted out the story. We learned about prepositions, then used them in our version, Scottie's Walk. Mrs. Dow and Mrs. Bathe aren't clowning around...they really want you to join the PTO!

We enjoyed the start to our Color Week with reading an old favorite, The Little Red Hen. It was funny to act it out as a play.Moving on to yellow day, we learned about number lines. We used different ways to practice using one. Blue Day allowed us to practice ways to make ten. We read My Big Green Pocketbook on Green Day, and acted out the story. The students then made their own pocketbooks or briefcases with important things inside. We did a fun comparison activity for math, using Fruit Loops. It was Spirit Night at Spring Creek BBQ and I enjoyed seeing some of you! Thanks for supporting Highlands! Someone's green briefcase even made it. :) We ended our week with Carrot Day. We observed, measured, and weighed our carrots. We even measured each other with carrots!
We enjoyed our return to school after the long hurricane break. We talked about how important our First Responders were during this experience. The students made thoughtful cards to thank them. We had fun with some partner activities and learned how to sort by attributes. We've also had a great time exploring math boxes and our STEAM area (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). One of our art activities this week allowed the students to create their letter for the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree.We interviewed each other and found out more about our friends. It is going to be a great year!
