We continue to work on getting to know each other. We had fun making artistic letters after reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! In Science, we observed letters and sorted them. Recording our observations is an important skill! Using Science tools will be fun this year! We used magnifying glasses to observe things in the classroom. In Math, we have been working on ordering numbers. The students worked in groups to arrange tiles to 100. The fastest group! A couple of other groups weren't far behind! They worked so hard on the light table and wanted a picture! Sometimes, you just need a dance break!

We are in full swing in First Grade. We actually had indoor recess one day...not for the rain, but for the heat! We did lots of activities this week. Some were done with partners and some were at our desks. We love Math Boxes! There are STEM activities, the light table, iPads and Osmo, building activities and games. Sharing our writing always brings a smile! I had a special treat this week. My son brought my grandchildren to have lunch with me. They left when the students came in, but I think they could have stayed all day and played! Our new Science Lab
We have an amazing new Science Lab that was put together this summer by our wonderful PTO. We visited one day for a tour, then returned for a lesson. Thank you parents for your help and donations! We had a wonderful week of discovery and getting to know each other! We learned how to "turn and talk" this week. We are practicing how to have conversations and be good listeners. We did a scavenger hunt on the first day. There was a lot of giggling and moving! We loved reading this fun book, Elmer. He learned that everyone is different and that is a good thing! The students then made their own elephants. We explored some of our math boxes and STEM activities. It is going to be a great year!

AuthorI am a retired First Grade teacher in Texas. I have two children, two daughters-in-law, a grandson and granddaughter. Our beloved pup, Rocco, went to heaven this year. He was 15 years old. I've been married 37 years. I would love to hear from any former students! Archives
