We are fortunate to have access to some iPads in class due to some grants I wrote last year. We had so much fun this week, learning how to use them and trying out a few applications.

The culminating activity to our historical study of Thanksgiving was our feast! The students made homemade butter, and helped me follow a recipe (and used their math skills to double the ingredients) to make cornbread muffins. We also enjoyed a wide assortment of fruits and had a small taste of pumpkin pie (this was a first for many of them). We talked about what we were thankful for (you have some thoughtful children!). I hope you love the family portraits they created for placemats. It was a fun day and there were lots of smiles all day! Check out these Pilgrims and Native Americans!
We have been discussing families and changes. We combined the two topics to make timelines. I love their cute baby pictures! Take a look......
Clements ROTC Veterans' Day is always a tender, sentimental time for me as my father was a career Air Force pilot. He would have loved our celebration at Highlands! The students sang a lot of patriotic songs, heard from a Navy seaman, watched the "presentation of colors", and joined together to thank the Veterans in our extended Highlands family. Thank you to the parents and precious Veterans that came out to remind us how great it is to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave! After the program, Amanda B's grandpa came to the classroom and read his original story about Nibbles the Squirrel. We sure enjoyed having him! We have enjoyed learning about trees. We learned a lot of tree facts, spoke about a tree's importance in our world, and even developed a collection of poems about trees. Thank you for helping your child complete the tree report, and for sending in leaves for us to observe. We have used our composition skills to write, math and science skills to record observations and sort (and do leaf rubbings!), and our creativity skills to make beautiful pictures. We had a lot of fun with trees!
What a great time we had learning about these arachnids! I'm sure your child can tell you many spider facts. We decided to have a little fun with our spiders using adjectives. Take a look at the creative ways they chose to use this part of speech.
We loved these videos when studying our Doubles facts. Beware, you will be singing them a long time!
