We estimated, measured and observed pumpkins.
Happy Pumpkin Week! We enjoyed all of the fun activities! We completed our small moment stories about a time we got hurt. The students loved sharing their books! We practiced with tens and ones by creating numbers for our partners to build. In Science, we studied magnets and explored magnetic powers with lots of materials. Look at these cute creative pumpkins! Pumpkin Day! We estimated, measured and observed pumpkins. We decorated pumpkins and even played Candy Corn Pumpkin Bingo!

Spider Week, astronaut visit, math practice, Firefighter visit, a cool experiment and snow cones!10/19/2019 Spiders everywhere! We had fun writing spider facts, and then making creative spiders of our own. The 5th graders were fortunate to have a visit from a real NASA astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut. While were not participating in the presentation, the students were excited that they were in the building. We've been working on problem solving in Math. Practice makes us better! We were so excited to visit with some Sugar Land firefighters! We send a big shout out to some parents (former Science teachers) that happily did a fun experiment with us in the Science lab! Thank you to all of the parents that joined the PTO this year! First Grade won the membership drive and we enjoyed snowcones on an awesome Friday afternoon!
OUR PTO ROCKS! Apple Week! We enjoyed learning about apples and wrote about what we learned. Their writing pieces look great in the hallway! We have been learning about different types of energy. We did some investigations with light energy using flashlights. It got really interesting with the lights off, and they even tried to do some shadow puppets. It was REALLY noisy when we experimented with sound energy using instruments from our music teacher. Apple Day! We began the day with getting our applesauce started. They enjoyed the whole cooking process! They loved the tasting part! They graphed the votes for favorite apple. We used the apple cores to make apple prints with paint. Time for tasting! It was a fun day!
We loved reading Rosie's Walk and acting out the story! We discussed prepositions with this story, then made a class book about "Scottie's Walk." We used dice to make number sentences, then used our iPads to play a couple of competition games. We were lining up for recess and I walked around to their literacy centers. There was a lot of good work going on! We enjoyed some partner math games this week. In Writing and Social Studies, we have been working on pattern books about Authority Figures. The students shared their books with a visiting class from Kindergarten. The Astros began their journey to the World Series with a playoff game Friday. We watched part of the game and played Baseball Math! With each batter's number, the students found ways to make that number. It was fun (especially for this teacher that wanted to see part of the game)! Love how she labeled her sentences with Astros and Tampa Bay Rays! We must have been good luck since the Astros won!
