We had some fun moments this week with our unit on Pigs! We read some hilarious fiction literature, and read non-fiction texts to learn the real facts. We began the week with reading The Three Little Pigs. Watching the retelling of this story was pretty funny! One of our stories led us to make creative pigs. We spent some time each day this week working on non-fiction details about pigs to create pig books. The best part is always sharing with a friend! We've been doing a lot of measuring with our Math unit. One day, we used raffle tickets to measure things in the classroom. I casually wondered out loud, "I wonder how long the orange cabinets are?" - and suddenly they all rushed over and figured out how to get themselves organized to measure. The answer was, "109 tickets!" It was fun reading about your family adventures over Spring Break!

We have been reading about important people in history. We wrote biographies about ourselves because we are important, too! Reading books about Tall Tales and legends sparked some imagination. Though we were not at school on St. Patrick's Day, we had fun building some leprechaun traps! We loved our visit from our very own guidance counselor, Mrs. Rothberg. Her book, Don't Eat the Bluebonnets, has been slightly updated in a lovely 10th anniversary edition. Our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser raised over $10,000 for the American Heart Association!! Thank you to everyone that donated.
We worked hard this week to get some projects ready to share at Open House! Texas bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush flowers Watercolor paintings in response to The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush Cowboys and cowgirls! Fairy Tale castles with special visitors Process writing stories about a time they got hurt Sharing riddles and drawings Nursery rhyme and Fairy Tale dioramas Fact families and birthplace scatter graph We ended our week with a celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday on Read Across America Day!
I'm so proud of every student for making these outstanding dioramas. I'm not sure why the replay doesn't show more on the screen, so my apologies to the students if their entire head doesn't show. It was a bit of an adventure getting everyone filmed in a wiggly classroom! |
