make " butter" for our Thanksgiving Feast.
In Math, we've been working with our 120 charts. The students had fun putting the puzzles together. We hope you enjoyed our artwork this week! Making placemats of their families, and doing handprint turkeys resulted in some beautiful keepsakes. We had to shake the cream for quite awhile to make " butter" for our Thanksgiving Feast. We talked about what made us feel thankful. They enjoyed sitting down together for a feast. We had Pilgrims and Native Americans! As we prepared to leave for the holiday week, Mr. Koski dropped in to bring the wooden stand he created for them. We wanted a way to hang the bags that contain our storytelling kits. He showed them how he drew a plan on paper, then shopped for materials. Happy Thanksgiving!

We are thankful for so many things! Here's an iMovie to tell you all about it. We enjoyed making "Scottie's Neighborhood" to showcase all of our businesses and community services. We had to determine if they were selling goods or providing a service. After reading, I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, we retold the story with our character pieces. We finished up our study of Natural Resources, and decided to take a Nature Walk. They were so excited to get outside on a beautiful fall day. They recorded their observations and drew pictures. Future scientists! We also spent some time observing some components of Soil: sand, clay & humus. We ended our week with our Veterans Day program. Thank you to all that have served!
Things were hopping in First Grade this week. We spent the week doing a lot of fun activities. We focused on trees in our reading and writing lessons. We read Leaf Magic, then imagined what we'd wish for. We did some leaf rubbings after learning about different kinds of trees. The students used their real world knowledge to write some poems about trees. The best part is always sharing with a friend! Look how proud they are! Math has been all about fractions this week. We made these sweet little "Fractionpillars" which were a big hit! We made some interesting fraction pizzas! As we learned about jobs and the economy, we did a little riddle game with our friends. We had to guess which profession they drew. Our science study of natural resources allowed us to examine a collection of rocks. Several students even brought in their own rocks from home. They were so interested in this Rock Lab as they recorded their observations! |
