We were fortunate to have some high school students join us for a day to focus on Junior Achievement topics, such as financial literacy. They spoke about jobs, neighborhoods, goods, services, and more. One of our students leaders was a former student of mine! During math time, we've enjoyed some fun card games. One of my very favorite books is Rainbow Fish. We laughed watching the different groups act it out. Our ocean activities included painting, and other crafts. We enjoyed a rockin' assembly (courtesy of the PTO) from environmental educator, Steve Trash. He got the students fired up to reduce! reuse! recycle! Time for FIELD DAY! It was so hot! All the Scotties gathered on the hill for one giant Highlands picture. We came inside, and were treated to a high-energy dance show by Soul Street Dance Company. Kona Ice provided a delicious treat! Thank you, PTO, for the show and the icy goodness! We made lots of great Field Day memories!

We began our study of the ocean and started working on our hallway mural. The students love adding new details! We are still learning about money. Some of the students shared their coin collections. We played a guessing game with original designs on coins. The students tried to figure out who designed each coin. We flipped coins for a graphing game. We even used our coins for a shopping game. Some students brought in shells from home to observe during our ocean studies. They loved making these books about ocean animals. Sharing is always fun! For Bubble Day, we enjoyed a fun magic show, and that afternoon... BUBBLES! More Lego fun!
We continued our study of seeds and plants this week. We enjoyed a beautiful book, The Sunflower House, and the students wrote about what they'd do with one. We checked our lima bean seeds, and they were growing! Time to make vegetable soup! Ready to start cooking! Yummy! Now for the taste test.... We spent a little bit of extra time at math boxes this week, and here's what it looked like!
The First Grade students did so well with their choir program, Pajama Party! In math, we've been studying money all week. It's fun to share our collections! We've been studying living and non-living things, and made a little habitat for our pet rocks. We began our unit on seeds, and had a fun "seed lab" while we examined different kinds. We planted lima beans, and will watch their progress. Our big event of the week was the Poetry Party! We are so grateful to everyone that came, and allowed the students to share original poems. First, we practiced in class. Time to enjoy our guests! Time for snacks! Thank you so much for coming!
