We had a lovely time celebrating Thanksgiving in our classroom. We made homemade "butter", and ate fruit salad, cornbread and pumpkin pie. We talked about giving thanks, and shared some moments of gratitude. First off, we made these headbands... Next, we got into groups to shake the cream into "butter." Then it was time to feast! Happy Thanksgiving!

Here is an adorable iMovie of gratitude. Each student thought about something they were grateful for, and drew a picture. Sometimes we have free play time at math boxes to explore and create. The students love using their imaginations to problem solve and process concepts we have learned. When building with geoblocks, one student told me that she was making a ship to hold the Pilgrims. Cracked me up! These students made long trains of unifix cubes. They were going to count them, and one said, "hey, if we count by tens, it would go a lot faster." Exactly!! So here are their groups of tens. We had a few extra minutes on Friday and decided to play a little Sight Word Bingo. They are getting better at recognizing their words!
These decorative turkeys were optional homework, but so many students took time to make one. They turned out so lovely! With our discussion about turkeys, we were fortunate to watch a webinar from the Texas Wildlife Association about turkeys. Here are a few fun facts:
* Turkeys have between 5,000 and 6,000 feathers * They can make 28 different calls * A female turkey is a hen; a young male turkey is a jake * Some of the turkey body parts are...snood, beard, wattle, carbuncles * They are omnivores (they eat both meat and plants) |
