Due to the overwhelming success of our PTO Membership Drive, Mrs. Dow & Mrs. Bathe agreed to a Sumo Wrestling Match! It was hilarious and entertaining!
We continue to practice our strategies in math. We used these dog sliders to practice addition and subtraction on a number line. In Science, we did some experiments with heating and cooling. We melted crayons, and popped some popcorn. As our color unit ended, the student wrote about what they liked best. After writing pattern books, the students loved reading them to a friend. PTO Update

After enjoying this amazing book, the students did an inspired-art activity, making their own "blue dogs." They did another inspired-art activity after reading this funny book. We've been working on pattern books, and did an activity after this book. We enjoyed having our Math Specialist for a fun lesson and game. We also studied 2D shapes this week. We worked with partners to make these shapes with straws. After making 2D shapes, they used paper shapes to design a picture. Then it was time to find 2D shapes in the real world. We divided up into teams to search for shapes and record them with iPads. We shared our findings. It was noisy, but fun! Hooray for Spring Creek Spirit Night! Thank you to everyone that came! I'm sorry I missed some of you. Our class rocks!
We have enjoyed learning about physical properties of objects. Here is a glimpse of one of our sorting events on Blue Day. We practiced the naming parts and telling parts of sentences by finding the correct partner. We had a scavenger hunt in class to find types of authority figures. I just love this book about a lost pocketbook. On Green Day, we acted it out, then made our own pocketbooks and briefcases. Sharing is always the best part! Carrot Day was exciting! We recorded some scientific observations about our carrots. We worked hard to get a funny class picture for Open House.
We started our Color Week, with a hilarious retelling of The Little Red Hen. The audience was highly amused! On yellow day, we had fun with this interactive book, Press Here. The students created pages of their own and it was so exciting to share! In Science, we have been using our senses and science tools to identify the physical properties of objects. We have sorted many things and created many sorting rules, including using these crazy monster cards. Check out the intensity of these young scientists as they observe these objects! Math is more fun when you get to use cool manipulatives!
After readingChicka Chicka Boom Boom, the students made these creative letters to decorate our hallway. We also made these Rules posters to remind us about behaviors at school. We enjoyed a book this week with our Reading Interventionist, as we learned about using think marks while we read independently. We did some fun math activities this week. We worked in teams to put our number tiles in order. The winning team with the fastest time! We used cards to make groups of ten, used dominoes to add, and used Fruit Loops to compare amounts using greater than and less than symbols. Our Science contract has been signed and we are ready to do some activities!
