Scottie has welcomed his new friends for a touch of spring in the classroom! We took advantage of the weather to go out and do some observations. We looked for living and non-living things to record on our science papers. We had a fun week of hilarious pig literature. Here are a few pictures we created about our "Can-Do" pigs! This was another fun book, Pigsty. It was funny to think about what the students would do with pigs in their bedrooms!

We continued our discussion of natural resources by observing and immersing ourselves in the study of rocks. The students really enjoyed observing all types of rocks. And....then we created little habitats for our PET ROCKS! We learned about igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks and their attributes. Ms. Yee made a visual example of layering different substances like you might find in a rock. We then used playdough to "make" our own layered rocks! Another fun "rock" activity was drawing with CHALK: a soft, white, porous sedimentary rock, a form of limestone!
We enjoyed a cold and rainy Thursday by visiting the Childrens Museum. There is always so much to see! It sure was a fun time!
We loved having company for Open House. We hope you enjoyed all that we had to share! We did some creative writing in response to reading the book Stuck (about a boy that got his kite stuck in a tree). Here are some lovely Texas bluebonnets - the state flower of Texas! We did Texas paintings in response to the book, The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush. We did some cool painted castles, and wrote a letter, inviting someone to visit. We learned about many different National Symbols. Here's a peek at the Statue of Liberty wall, and our original flags. And in case you were losing sleep over it, don't worry! The Missing Tarts have been found! Each student contributed a nursery rhyme character to our giant mural. Whew! It has been a busy couple of weeks!
