We had a busy and interesting week, studying the history of the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native Americans. Our culminating activity was a feast! The students enjoyed eating similar foods to those enjoyed at the first Thanksgiving Day feast in 1621 (fruit salad, cornbread muffins, homemade butter, pumpkin pie). We made our own butter with cream. The shaking was done by the students!

Here are a few photos of fun things we did in class. In Science, we observed the effects of heating up a Hershey kiss in our hands. Our Geometry unit included a day of geoboards and rubber bands. The students were very creative with their shapes!
What a terrific Freedom Fun Run! Our school fundraiser allowed the students to run laps around the soccer fields for donations. We raised over $19,000 in pledges! Many students ran for honored Veterans in their family.
In Social Studies, we have been studying Goods and Services, and the differences between the two. Each student selected a storefront business to create and determined if they provided a service or sold goods. They did an excellent job on creating "Scottie's Neighborhood".
We've been learning about geometry this week. We studied plane shapes (rectangle, square, triangle, circle, etc.) and solid shapes (cube, cylinder, rectangular prism, pyramid, sphere, etc.). We made shape pictures, built shapes with marshmallows & pretzels and even made an iMovie. Take a look! We have been enjoying lots of literature related to Fall. This week we focused on trees and spiders. We made our spider webs with glue and glitter, and added spider facts. Before we started our study of spiders, we used the iPad to vote on whether or not we liked them. Surprisingly, most students like them!
This week, we had an informative videoconference with the Texas Wildlife Association. It was called "Creepy Critters", and gave us an insider's glimpse into the lives of a rat, a scorpion, and a bull snake. The students took notes and drew pictures. We learned about their habitats, predators, what they eat and what they look like. They did look a bit creepy!
