We moved up to the Arctic this week! After reading Angela from the Arctic, the students made these Inupiat dolls. Since we couldn't have real snow, we had to settle for fake snow that we made. My favorite book about the Arctic is Mama, Do You Love Me? An Inuit girl asks her mom a lot of questions. We did a vocabulary matching game and then created our own igloos. We finished a writing activity about being trapped inside a snow globe or a sand globe. They had fun sharing their stories with a friend! In Social Studies, we have been studying geography and maps. I have a large collection of maps that we explored. It was fun finding places we've heard about! We played some fun math games this week, and constructed paper 3D solid shapes. We had a great Career Day this week. Below you will see a future writer, coach, fashion designer, and 2nd grade teacher! We attended various speakers including Grover "Deacon" Jones. He is a former baseball player for the Chicago White Sox and now a special assistant to the President of the Skeeters. Jones was the first African American recognized by the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY and also was inducted into four other Halls of Fame.
