This week we celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Highlands Elementary. It was exciting to think about all the Scotties that have passed through these hallways. The school was beautifully decorated, and we had a parade on Thursday to view everything. That night, we had a wonderful program and many former Scotties (students and teachers) returned to celebrate! We began our Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tale unit this week. We have a lovely storybook mural, complete with characters that the students created. After reading Little Red Riding Hood, the students enjoyed retelling the story with these finger puppets. It was fun to watch our class say the pledges on announcements this week! We studied Force & Motion this week in Science and experimented with rolling cars in the hallway, and on the carpet in the room. We enjoyed a performance of "How I Became a Pirate" by the group from Main Street Theater. The students loved all the live action! We ended our week with an exciting Skype conference with a well-known author, Tricia Brown. She has written more than twenty-five books, mostly about Alaska. She spoke to us on a snowy day from Anchorage, Alaska. She read her book, taught us some "Eskimo" words, and even tried on her parka (with wolf trim) for us.
