We had a very busy week in First Grade! We started our week with a videoconference with NASA at the Johnson Space Center. Our program, The Magnificent Sun, was terrific! The students were first asked to draw what they think the sun looks like. We had a little trouble with our videoconferencing unit, so we were able to use a webcam to communicate. Mr. Michael (at NASA) wanted to see what the students drew. We learned how all the colors of the rainbow can be associated with the sun. We also added details to our "scientific drawings" such as sun spots, solar flares, and solar wind. Our Spring Creek BBQ Spirit Night was a lot of fun! I enjoyed seeing you there! My whole family came and surprised me! My grandson loved the attention! We loved this book, Why is Blue Dog Blue? by George Rodrigue. The students then created their own versions. Aren't they beautiful? Carrot Day! We compared our carrots and declared winners for the longest, shortest, heaviest, and funniest-looking carrots. We then repeated this activity with winners from the other First Grade classes. It was exciting and fun! We made books about our carrots, and did some measuring activities. Our non-standard measurement with carrots included measuring each other! After all that excitement, it was time for a crazy picture. We ended our day with some dance time and the disco ball!

Oh, Patty...so many great things happening in your class! I love it! Wish I was there! And thanks for always including all the books you all read and use as "jump off" points for art and discussion...I am keeping that list handy for my days as grandma (yaya). Love ya!
