Happy New Year! We made some goals/resolutions for the new year. Several students did the "writing challenge" over the holiday break and shared with the class. Everyone wrote about their break, and we did some peer editing. They helped each other correct their spelling, check for punctuation and capitals, and look for anything that did not make sense. In math this week, we worked on fractions and 3D solid shapes. We worked in teams with the iPads to look for 3D shapes in the real world. We read several rebus stories this week. A rebus story contains words /and/ pictures in a sentence. The students created some imaginative and creative stories and read them to each other. In science, we have been learning about weather. Each day we went outside to record our observations. We began studying penguins this week and were pleased to know that our class flag flew in ANTARCTICA with the Adelie penguins! Adelie penguins live in a very harsh environment on a continent that is 98% covered in ice, so we are sure they enjoyed seeing our flag! *All photo credits go to https://www.penguinscience.com/ Look in the distance - those are all Adelie penguins! We did an experiment using water on paper that had been colored with crayons. The waxy crayons helped to waterproof the paper just like a penguin's feathers are waterproof. We are ready for new ways to learn every day!
