We have begun our soil and plants unit. We observed some of the components of soil: sand, clay, and humus. We've been reading about living things, and observing seeds. We soaked some lima beans for a day, and then discovered how easy it was to see the seed coat, embryo, and food storage. If you ask the students, one of their favorite things is Flashlight Friday! They take their familiar books and a flashlight and can sit anywhere in the room. Then, it's lights out! It is a great way to create a little excitement about reading, while working on our fluency. Reading with a partner is especially fun.
